ITV Chairman broadcasts for Demelza
The brief
Demelza Hospice Care for Children is the inspiration of Derek and Jennifer Phillips, who set up the charity in memory of their daughter Demelza, who herself worked at a children’s hospice in Birmingham, and died in 1990, aged 24, from a brain tumour. Having opened its doors to children in 1998, the Charity has grown and gathered momentum and is today providing hospice care for over 450 children with life-limiting illnesses and their families, mostly given via short break respite care either in Demelza House or via Demelza-James, providing a “hospice at home” service for over 150 children and their families in East Sussex, South West Kent and South London.
The aim
Charlton Athletic Football Club initiated this event sponsored by Cousins Entertainment to help further raise funds for the Demelza £6.5 million Capital Appeal in support of their new South London children’s hospice which opens in January 2009.
The result
In the splendid Palm Court setting of the Waldorf Hilton guests were provided with the chance to hear Michael Grade, one of our most revered Captains of Industry speaking about the world of broadcasting, football, Britain’s Got Talent and his commitment to the Demelza children’s hospice. We hope our campaign motto “Can We Come and Tell You About Demelza?” will enable us to spread the word to as many people as possible so that we reach our target
