Bevil Mabey

Ronel Lehmann writes: The sad passing of Bevil Mabey (obituary, May 21) coincided with the Variety Club of Great Britain awarding the “Outstanding Development of the Year” to The Corps of the Royal Engineers.

In the past the Award has been bestowed on some of the country’s most prestigious developments over the years, including Terminal 5 at Heathrow and the redevelopment of St Pancras station. The judges’ committee was unanimous in awarding it this year of the Army for building the Barker Crossing for Workington in the wake of the appalling floods in Cumbria last winter. Mabey would have been very proud.
