The brief
JUSTICE – the British charity that promotes improvements in justice through research, education, lobbying and intervention in the courts – wanted to significantly raise their profile within the legal profession as a means to boosting their fund-raising.
Our approach
We have worked for JUSTICE on a pro bono basis since January 2007, to help promote awareness of the charity amongst City law firms. We decided to focus on promoting JUSTICE at landmark legal events which are attended by City firms as well as supporting the charity’s press relations work in the legal media.
The result
At our instigation JUSTICE Director Roger Smith spoke at the inaugural Financial News Legal Awards 2007, alongside Lord Digby Jones, addressing an audience drawn from approximately 40 leading City firms. Our profile raising efforts for the charity led to Roger Smith being selected as a judge for The Lawyer Awards for two years. The awards ceremony is attended by leading City and international firms as well as leading UK barristers. We promote significant events relating to JUSTICE such as the appointment of Baroness Kennedy of the Shaws, QC as Chair of Council in 2008 which was covered in The Times and the legal professional press. Our pro bono support for JUSTICE has assisted in it maintaining a regular flow of donations from City law firms so it can continue promoting human rights and improving the system of justice.
